What is HTTPS?

https:// is like http://, except the little “s” on the end, which stands for “Secure”. Basically this means that the connection between your browser and the website you are connected to is more secure because it requires more validation between the website’s server and your web browser; The server and your browser “shake hands” a lot more than a regular HTTP connection. This makes it tougher for hackers and malware programs to intercept your data while it is being transferred.

Luckily, both Twitter and Facebook have HTTPS options that you may not be aware of. Below is an outline of what you need to do to turn on HTTPS for both Twitter and Facebook.

After enabling HTTPS, your accounts will be safer from attacks from hackers or automated programs that go after your in transit data. Of course, you can never be 100% protected from cyber attacks, but after enabling this feature you are much more protected.
